Maria De Bondt
Elevage d'Aubin
Wat is the origin of your farm ?
My father was a big pig breeder (+/- 150 sows) in the 50's in Stekene but we had the swine fever and the breeding disappeared. I continue to breed pigs without registering them, then when I moved to Aubin, I build registered animals from Jean Lempereur and Pierre Vansweevelt who had strains of my father. A boar of the first listed nest, Kolos d'Aubin, was sold to Remy Paquet who won the first prize in Brussels. My breeding is now at Warsage.
How many sows do you have right now ?
I have a dozen Piétrain sows.
What is the main goal in your selection ?
I select my boars mainly on meat production to get good terminal boars.
What are the other points of attention in your farm ?
The health status of a breeding farm is very important to me, that's why I never buy animals outside and buy seed in an insemination center free from PRRS.
When I select animals for my breeding, I pay particular attention to the swiftness of a pig. Some understand what is asked of them more quickly than others.
What is your greatest pride as a pig breeder ?
I am pleased with the sustainability of my breedingfarm with satisfied customers who come back like insemination centers, pig producers or breeders.
I am also proud to have kept the "blue" lineage of my father which I recovered by the blood of Jean Lempereur.
